Full interior and exterior refurbishment of a 55ft 2005 narrowboat on the Regents Canal, London.
Nightingale was a self-build project undertaken over two years. The narrbowboat was bought in Iver, Buckinghamshire and driven to the Regents Canal, London, to undergo a full interior refurbishment.
The boat had suffered a plumbing leak whilst uninhabited leading to a badly damaged subfloor, and contained gas plumbing deemed unsafe by current regulations, meaning the boat required a complete overhaul to be updated to modern standards.
The opportunity was taken to build a new insulated wall at the stern end of the boat, to improve thermal performance and allow the existing three-quarter mattress to be replaced with a built-in king size bed.
A new kitchen and bathroom were built using birch plywood, tiles and brassware reclaimed from an office fit-out project in nearby Shoreditch. The boat’s generous original brass windows were re-sealed and refurbished, flooding the boat with natural light and offering calming views over the central London waterways. The project concluded with a full stripping and repainting of the boats exterior using traditional coach enamel paints.
