Margate Kiosk
A new kiosk on the promenade in the Clifftop Conservation Area, Margate. Designed for Thanet Council and to be made by Betongpark Ltd.

The kiosk is to be constructed from the outside-in, playing to the strengths of the specialist contractor, who are experts in sprayed concrete. The walls will be sprayed in-situ and hand-finished to varying degrees of smoothness, according to their orientation and how the sunlight will catch them throughout the day.

Site Plan

The building will be insulated and lined in timber, with a simple monopitched roof projecting over the servery, forming a canopy for customers and gesturing towards the ocean. A round window in the rear elevation frames the view of the horizon for passers by.

Material from the abandoned mini-golf course currently occupying the site has been suggested to be recycled and cast into the building fabric as aggregate.
